MiX People: Ian Howard
At MiX, we are so proud to work with great people who have delivered some brilliant projects. And as part of our series introducing some of our team, we are featuring one of our AV Consultants, Ian Howard CTS.
– What do you do at MiX?
As an AV Consultant, I work closely with a client to understand their audio visual requirements, develop the design to ensure the proposed technology solutions incorporate all of their needs, and then help implement these within a new office location or refurbishment of their current space. I also work closely with other design teams to ensure the proposed solutions are fully coordinated ahead of implementation.
– What has been your favourite career project?
My favourite career project to date is Uber’s new 325,000 sqft European HQ in Amsterdam. I worked closely with the client to review and implement their new global standards across standard meeting room types. I then designed and developed multiple bespoke spaces, including a three-way divisible event space incorporating nearly 50,000,000 pixels of display resolution.
– What do you think are the industry’s key challenges or opportunities at the moment?
One of the key challenges facing the audio visual industry today is the lack of good, technical personnel. As the industry has grown so quickly over a short period, sufficient plans haven’t been put in place to attract young people into the industry through things like apprenticeships. AV systems are now everywhere you go, and technological advances will only increase this.
One of the other main challenges is sustainability, but I see this more as an opportunity moving forward than an ongoing challenge. Manufacturers are now being targeted to lower their carbon footprint. If the whole industry can pull together and do all we can to reduce our footprints and be more sustainable with things like packaging etc., then we are doing our bit for the environment.
